Sex: No OrgasmBy:
I'm 23 and the mother of two. I've been with my boyfriend for six years, and I've never had an orgasm. I love him and feel very attracted to him, but I just don't seem to get anything out of our lovemaking. Is there something wrong with me? Is there a way to solve this?
-- Cristina
Lack of orgasm is not an uncommon complaint from women. Many times it is due to a lack of communication between partners -- we as women are notoriously bad at speaking up and letting our partners know what we like and what feels good. Sometimes sex is uncomfortable, and there is nothing like pain to ruin the chance for orgasm. A visit to the gynecologist can uncover infections or other problems that may lead to painful intercourse.
If physical causes are ruled out, then a visit to a qualified therapist may be helpful. Again, there needs to be good and open communication between partners. Many larger cities have certified sex therapists, while in smaller communities there is often a therapist with the knowledge and experience to help couples with this problem. Often your gynecologist will serve as an appropriate starting point and can refer you elsewhere if necessary.
