Can Hypothyroidism Affect My Libido?By:
Ever since I had my daughter and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism I have not been able to enjoy sex. The thought of sex makes me sick. Furthermore, I do not want my partner to touch, kiss or hug me. I have suggested we end our relationship but he has refused because he is truly in love with me. Is there something wrong with me for not feeling the same for him anymore? It has been at least nine months since we last had intercourse and I do not see that it will change anytime soon.
I am not a medical doctor, so I cannot tell you anything about how hypothyroidism might affect your sex life. But even if it did have a negative effect, it would not stop you from wanting to be hugged or kissed, so I suspect that something else is going on here. Many women get the "blues" after they have had a child, and it does cause them to pull away from their partners for a time. If they give in to this condition, they can become more and more depressed.
My recommendation to these women is to force themselves to try to restore the romance to their relationship. Sometimes a jump-start or two, that is to say a session where you hug and kiss and maybe even have sex, can reawaken your sexual instincts. Of course, perhaps your medical condition may override this effect. What you should probably do is ask this question of your doctor first, and then consult with a sex therapist. I believe that with the help of professionals working together, you can restore your love life.
